A Pan-African B2B Marketplace — Alibaba Meets Coupa Across All 54 Countries
The Challenge
Cross-border trade within Africa is fragmented across 54 countries, each with its own suppliers, buyers, logistics and customs — and no single marketplace that carries a transaction all the way from discovery to a delivered, invoiced order. TAIM54 set out to be that platform: part supplier marketplace (Alibaba) and part procurement system (Coupa), it had to let suppliers list products and services, let buyers source and run competitive RFP/RFQ bidding, carry the full order-to-invoice lifecycle, and coordinate warehousing and cross-border shipment with customs tracking — all under role-based access for four distinct kinds of user, and an affiliate network to drive growth.
The Solution
TAIM54 is a large Laravel marketplace built around a unified domain model of suppliers, products and services, requisitions, quotes, purchase orders, orders, invoices, warehouses, inventory slots and shipments. Buyers post RFPs and RFQs and receive competitive quotes; accepted quotes flow into purchase orders and the order-to-invoice lifecycle; warehousing and shipment tracking coordinate the physical side across borders. Role-based access separates admins, suppliers, customers and guests, with passwordless auth links. An AI admin assistant and a customer-facing chatbot sit on top for support and operations, and the platform is seeded with every African country (backed by a full world-countries dataset) so the geography is real from day one.
